Busan, South Korea

31 Aug -3 Sept 2015

Sorry for the delayed blog post (as usual)... but this time can't blame it on Mr. Hubby for taking a while to upload pics to FB...
***this mummy was to blame!!!*** Lols

It's been almost 2 months now since our trip and my post pregnancy brains is kinda rusty now, so forgive me if this blog post seems vague! U can still ask me questions :)
It's my 3rd time to south Korea now (but 1st time to Busan), Sienna's 2nd time to south Korea and baby Skye 1st time!!!.. :)

PREVIOUS Korea trip : Click here.....

This time Mr. Hubby didn't join us as he is heading to Incredible India yet again to attend another cousin's wedding!

But truth be told, it was a last minute decision to go to Busan, South Korea... we joined gong gong on his flight as he had a 3 nights stay there!!! Sienna was super duper excited to know that gong gong was the driver... N even said gong gong can't go to the toilet as he had to fly the plane... Lols...
Chiu Chiu Jeffrey aka Manny couldn't joined us either as it was last minute...so it was just me, the kiddos, po po n gong gong!

Places we covered in summary:
1st day: (monday, early morning): After checking in, gong gong obviously NEEDED to sleep but for the rest of us, we were wide awake n ready to hit the streets of Busan!!! But actually our stomachs were growling... so gong gong gave us a few tips on where to go nearby for food n grocery shopping. We stumbled upon a noodles place recommended by the guy selling Korean chicken across the street.
Then we headed to "save zone" supermarket for some grocery shopping. Bought some milk(cheap n super yummy creamy just like Japan milk), snacks n yogurt drinks (for the kiddos), Korean coffee drinks (for me of course), mom went all excited n bought a BIG Box of grapes which we ended up eating everyday n brought back the leftovers! Bananas, etc...
The grapes were so cheap!!! 10 bunches costs 8900 won = SGD 9 whereas when I came back to Singapore, the same Korean grapes cost SGD 4 for just 1 bunch in NTUC

Explored Haeundae street market... mom wanted to taste corn dog for the first time (I tried it before when I was living in the USA) but this Korean version is more "bread-like" instead of corny! Kiddos were happy with their meat on a stick while I was happy with my rice cake desserts!!! We "Tapao" some sweet potato for gong gong in case he got hungry later.
went back hotel n had a nap...
Evening: Haeundae beach... our hotel "Novotel" was right smack on the beach...thus we stopped by it every evening on our way back! Sienna n skyler went "cray cray" over the sand...
Dinner: Korean bbq pork...was quite disappointed coz I still remembered my Korean bbq experience in Hongdae Seoul during my last Korea trip where I had it every night!!! Cheap, yummy n big portion... this time, it was the opposite!

2nd day: woke up bright n early! Headed to Gamcheon culture village aka "Santorini of the east"!!! The pictures of the village turned out surprisingly nice... we didn't explored much as we had a stroller with us n the place was hilly with lots of steps in between the narrow lanes of houses... the sun shining was unbearable hot! Otherwise, the weather was nice!

Headed to Jagalchi fish market to have our seafood lunch! Cheap seafood...33,000 won!!! We went with mixed seafood...lots of different kinds of fried/grilled fish. Not forgetting the overflow of yummy side dishes (Korean meal is accompanied with loads of free side dishes)

Gukje market for shopping... read reviews that it was similar to namdaemun market in Seoul but unfortunately we didn't buy anything as the fashion there was so outdated that even my mom said it was "granny" fashion!!!

BIFF square - shopping n street food... we walked pass it but again shopping was not as expected... we were so full from our seafood lunch that we couldn't really enjoy the street food. Bought a peach blended drink, ice coffee drink n a fried doughy caramel coated with nuts snack !

We headed back to another train station "Nampo" n stumbled upon Lotte shopping mall where we stopped to rest our tired legs while I breastfed baby Skye! Went to the highest floor aka skypark to get a birds eye view of busan!
Dinner : mom wanted to try black bean noodles made famous by Korean dramas... I tried once in Singapore but wasn't impressed... but this one was so yummy!!! We had pork dumplings as well...

3rd day: shopping day!!! Headed to shinsegae shopping mall at centum city (largest mall in the world according to guiness book of records)... not much sale going on and all the shops there were mostly the same as in Singapore n Malaysia... disappointed yet again.

Ate our brunch at the food court (dad had beef bulgogi n the rest of us shared a family platter of assortments), tried the famous "patbingsu" aka shaved ice for the first time (nothing to shout about other than the ice was very fine!!!)

Went up to the highest floor where they had a kids playarea called "zooraji"...

Couldn't resist the yummy abundant food at the food court... so we all shared a huge stir fried Korean noodles...yummy n spicy!!!
Went back hotel to nap...
Gong gong took us for a seafood dinner nearby the hotel...

4th day: (thurs evening flight) since my mum n I were disappointed with zero shopping, we decided to head to "save zone" departmental store nearby the hotel in hopes for our last minute shopping n my usual "supermarket sweep" (which I normally do on my last day) to fill up my empty luggages!!!

Fueled up with yummy steaming pork hot broth with rice aka "gukbap"!!! Might be one of the yummiest meal we had in this trip... cheap n good...

Headed to "save zone" where we shopped till we dropped!!! Gong gong volunteered to babysit baby Skye while the ladies did our shopping...  it was a "fruitful" shopping haul where we bought clothes, shoes, n lots of groceries... call us crazy we even bought a big box of peach!!! Lols...

Mummy tips:
~ bassinet - make sure to book in advance. We didn't need one for baby Skye as he's a little too big for it. Plus it's easier to breastfeed him with him by my side. The flight was quite empty so po po n sienna had a whole row while me n baby Skye had another.
~ it was red eye flight going there... which helped A LOT as all of us were happily snoozing most of the way!!! and we were out and about the next day we arrived!
~ baby Skye did not have any ear pressure problem this time! (THANK GOD)! Now that baby Skye is on solid food, we offered both kiddos snacks n drinks throughout the flight (especially during take off n landing). Sienna was happily sucking on her lollipop. She knows to associate lollipops to treats going to the aeroplane n vaccinations...hahaha... ***am a bad mommy, depriving my kids of lollipops!!!*** baby Skye had a lollipop on the flight back...
~ public transport is SUPER DUPER BABY friendly... just like in Singapore! But we had a bad experience where they did NOT offer to give up their priority seats to gong gong who was carrying Sienna even after numerous attempts by po po...nearby passengers did not bother either.
~ taxi ? We didn't need any... the trains were good enough...haeundae station is just minutes away from our hotel...
~ stroller - yes!!! Bring along...everywhere was stroller friendly... we didn't once had to carry the stroller... (except at gamcheon cultural village where there were steps). On a side note: the escalators had a pole in the middle to prevent strollers from getting on. But with a little maneuvering, we managed to get on ... in Singapore, we are pro at using strollers on escalators!
~baby high chair... they didn't have it except at big shopping malls. The rest of the restaurants were so small that we had to leave our stroller outside. (Note: we had to take turns eating as baby Skye couldn't sit at the table as they were hot pots, bbq, and lots of side dishes) very unsafe... so at one point I fed baby Skye outside at the sidewalk while the steps kept him entertained...
~baby changing or nursing rooms ~ Only at big shopping malls.
~no problems with baby food now that baby Skye is on SOLID FOOD... ! 7-11 are everywhere...not forgetting street food n the abundant of eatery places!!! The kiddos were happy campers as they are meat eaters n Korean food is good for them as the meat are thinly slice with no bones!
~ bottle water not needed. Just boil at the hotel.
~ we bought fruits, snacks, yogurt drink, milk, etc on our first day to last us the whole trip
Overall, this trip was a good holiday albeit a tiring one as Baby Skye does not really want to sit in the stroller n when he gets tired, he only wants mummy to carry :( n we didn't bring a baby carrier this time as this mummy packed light coz we were gonna be staying a few weeks in Malaysia.

I'm surprised my parents can still walk quite a fair bit...N not forgetting sienna walking ALL the way with no naps!!! My legs were all jelly by the end of each day... how I wished busan had cheap massages like in Thailand...  my mom commented she lost weight even though we ate non-stop...Lols...

I'm glad we did go for this trip as it was the last time me n the kiddos could take picture with gong gong in the cockpit!!! This mummy even managed to record gong gong giving his pilot welcoming speech!!!

***So emo n sentimental*** cause this mummy has been growing up being in n out of the cockpits

Tips:
~3 nights was just the right amount of time for us to visit busan...as we had kids n wanted to take it slow.
~we bought (at the ticket machine) a one day train/metro pass on our 2nd day as we were out n about...(4500won). But do note that it can't be used on buses n valid on the date itself n not 24 hrs - unlike other countries.

Didn't managed to take a picture of our KOREAN goodies haul...coz po po unpacked n kept all of it away once we reached home!!!

Incredible India

24-27 June 2015

Sorry for the delayed blog post (as usual)... Mr. Hubby took a while to upload pics to FB
***blame it on the hubs*** LOLs...

It's been almost 2 months now since our trip and my post pregnancy brains is kinda rusty now, so forgive me if this blog post seems vague! U can still ask me questions :)
It's my 3rd time to India now (but 1st time to Chennai)..and it was the kiddos first time :) so far, I've been fortunate to not get the "Delhi Belly" syndrome... maybe coz my stomach is made in Malaysia??? Lols ... but I was scared the kiddos sterilized stomach (thanks to Singapore), might easily catch the Delhi belly... but thank God all of us were well!!!

Delhi belly - "noun: Diarrhea or dysentery contracted from eating Indian (i.e., from India) food." <- source: www.urbandictionary.com

Places we covered in summary:
1st day: (Wednesday, early morning) first thing first when we arrived... after checking in, had a HUGE breakfast buffet n a quick nap, off we went for SHOPPING!!! ***No no, not for this mummy yeah... after having kids, this mummy is no longer a shopaholic*** can hear hubby singing "Hallelujah!!!" in the background...well, the kids needed an Indian costume for the wedding... so it was baby Skye first Indian outfit n baby Si's 2nd :) then we had dinner at a local eatery with yummy food...
Edited: okay I told a white lie, this mummy did shopped for myself... but it was out of necessity okayyyy!!! went to buy my "ready made" inner shirt to go along with my first Saree!!! ***can't wear a Saree without an inner right???*** Super excited to wear a Saree... have been bugging mr. Hubby even before marrying him that I wanted to wear a Saree for our wedding n do the whole BIG BOLLYWOOD wedding...hahaha...***watched too many bollywood movies perhaps???*** but ended up, I made ALL my bridesmaids wear Sarees instead...***bridezilla much???***

2nd day: after a late big breakfast buffet, we left for the wedding hall and there was an engagement ceremony.  We got to see all of mr.Hubby relatives...including the great grand father to baby Skye n baby Si...it was a precious moment as it was the first time meeting him!!! After the engagement, we were served snacks n then dinner (non stop good food at the wedding hall)... Then at night it was the reception where we took lots of pictures.

3rd day: we left very early in the morning (6am) to go to the official wedding ceremony. We were served breakfast n lunch there. After lunch, we came back to the hotel to get some rest, shower, changed and then went back to the wedding hall for a post wedding "games" ceremony.  By now skyler was so familiar with the place that he couldn't stop running around and playing with the other kids.

4th day: (sat night) spent a relaxing day n went to the mall nearby...coffee cafe hunting n loaded up on local Indian food. Cafes are everywhere in India as Indians LOVE their coffee... "coffee day" is their local version of Starbucks!!! Super cheap n good... tried their "devil's own" recommended by Mr. Hubby's  cousin...super sinful it was... it was more of a dessert tasting coffee with loads of whip cream, chocolate n coffee... the hubby who's not a fan of coffee liked it, so that goes to show that it was a dessert rather than coffee! I went back to my usual cappuccino n latte!!! Did some window shopping...surprisingly we didn't shop ANYTHING except for food for our stomachs... wanted to buy some casual Indian outfits but I changed my mind as I already have a few n won't be able to wear them much! Tried hunting for a supermarket to do my usual "supermarket sweep" (which I normally do on my last day) to fill up my empty luggages but couldn't find any!!!
Came back to the hotel, rested, packed n Off to the airport!!! Had our dinner at the airport (even though we were quite full) just coz we wanted to indulged in more yummy Indian food but ended up it was the worst meal we had in India!!! It was sooo bad that we didn't even finish it...***normally this momma don't like wasting food*** so far ALL the food we had in India was yummy till this very last meal...oh, what a bummer!!! Ended our trip on a bad note...but yeah, the more reason to plan for our next trip to India perhaps??? (P/s: updated: Mr. Hubby is off to India AGAIN in September to attend his cousin wedding...not the same cousin but his sister!!!) 2 weddings, same family, in a span of 3 months!

Mummy tips:
~ don't bother booking a bassinet from sg to India as there isn't one to be found due to it being a short flight...Lols...aircraft is a smaller one A321. N it's a short haul flight (4hrs).
~ we booked red eye flights for both ways... which helped A LOT as all of us were happily snoozing most of the way!!! and we were out and about the next day we arrived!
***am a bad mommy, depriving my kids of lollipops!!!***
~ public transport is SUPER NOT BABY friendly... most of the time we had a proper van ferrying us to n fro, our hotel to the wedding venue... but other times, we braved ourselves n took the auto rickshaw aka tuk tuk n held on for dear life!!! But sienna till this day is still talking about it n how she wants to go back to India to sit it... baby Skye (thank goodness) will just sit still n not fidget at all while taking in the sights, sounds n smells of India (mostly the traffic). A few kilometer on the roads felt like it took forever due to the traffic, condition of the roads, zigzagging, no highways, etc...
~ taxi ? Hmmmm, I've never seen any...checked with Mr. Hubby n he hadn't either. People either take the auto rickshaw aka tuk tuk for short distances or hired a private car/van with a driver.
~leave behind ur stroller!!! We brought just 1 stroller just in case as we knew indian weddings takes up the whole day n goes on for days!!! We attended the wedding for 3 days straight...stroller was needed for the kids to nap. N thank God, Sienna n Skyler took turns to nap in the stroller... (Sienna barely nap as she's at the age where nap is for the weak :p )
Only bring ur stroller if u intend to be stuck in shopping malls the whole day, every day... which I don't think u would want to ;)
~baby high chair??? Say what??? It does not exist in India... not that I have seen any!!!
~baby changing or nursing rooms??? Say what again??? Baby Skye is at the stage where he does not want to breastfeed when we are out n about!!! This busy body aka nosy baby gets soooo distracted that he doesn't think of (.)(.)!!! But whenever we had a few hours break, we would pop by our hotel for a quick power nap + breastfeed + diaper change! Also baby Skye usually goes poo poo once he wakes up in the morning :) TMI
But if needed, we changed their diapers in the toilets (standing position) now that baby Skye is walking! Do bring loads of pull up diapers!!! N wet wipes... yes wet wipes please!!! I didn't see any hand wash :( if can, a very small bottle of hand wash perhaps???
~no problems with baby food now that baby Skye is on SOLID FOOD... our hotel had the biggest breakfast buffet spread I have seen!!! It had both sections Indian vegetarian n Indian non vegetarian n not forgetting the salad bar, bread n cereal, omelette section. There even have ready to order Tiffin items!!!  The hotel staff were so friendly that they let us "tapao" pack some food for the kiddos - lunch settled :) the food at the wedding hall was sumptuous, serving us non stop breakfast, lunch, tea time snacks n dinner (free flow coffee n tea all throughout) but do note that it could be purely vegetarian n can be a tad spicy for the kiddos!!!
~didn't see any supermarkets nor 7-11 kinda shops. Mostly roadside shops where we bought only bottled waters!
~say yes to bottled water for everything!!! Including brushing teeth :) ur stomach will thank u for it...
~ we brought along loads of snacks n juices from home!!! Loaded up on fruits during the breakfast buffet ...

Note: asked Mr. Hubby (prior to the trip) if there were any touristy sites to visit nearby n the hubs said no!!! To recall from my previous trips to India, we didn't visit much touristy place (it was because of the lack of it)... only lots of temples if u are into temples n of course the famous Taj Mahal (which is on our bucket list - we have yet to visit that part of India)... but don't worry, the whole of India is a touristy sight which will leave you in awe!!! I have witness India (in a span of 5 Years) to be a lot cleaner, no more cows roaming in the cities, less public display of people doing their "business" openly, less beggers, etc...

"Incredible India!!! <-- indeed...

Overall, this trip was mainly to attend Mr. Hubby cousin's wedding and it was nice to see his side of the relatives again...and everyone got to meet Sienna and Skyler for the first time!!!

INDIAN Goodies... We brought back lots of Indian sweets (desserts) n savoury snacks (muruku)!!! Let me warn u that Indian sweets are the sweetest I have EVER tasted... but I have long ago found my fav, badusha!!! Less sweet compared to the rest of the Indian sweets but still considered very sweet to me... I can only manage to eat a few pieces even though its my fav :)

***hint hint to those travelling to India...hehehehe...***

#throwback when I made my "27 dresses" bridesmaids wear sarees...
***bridezilla mode on***

See you sydney!!!

(P/s: same repeated outer wear for all of us...as we didn't expect it to be still cold)...

12-17 March 2015
Caution: this is a very LONG post... If u like, u can just skip it and scroll down straight to the "mummy tips" or to the pics ;)

Sorry for the delayed blog post... Mr. Hubby finally transferred pics from the camera to his FB!!!
***blame it on the hubs*** LOLs...
It's been 2 months now since our trip and my post pregnancy brains is kinda rusty now, so forgive me if this blog post seems vague! U can still ask me questions though :)

This was quite a last minute trip as mr. Hubby was being sent to sydney for 1 day business trip but we decided to make full use of it and turned it into our vacation + mr. Hubby early bday celebration!!!
Too bad baby Si had to be left behind as this mummy wanted a more "relaxing" trip with just the hubs n baby skye :) no playing favouritism here as baby Skye goes wherever the "milk factory" goes!!! LOLs..
Plus we were ALL gonna go to our FIRST family vacation (just the 4 of us) to Cebu, Philippines a few days after our Sydney trip... ***lessens this mummy's guilt***
Plus we know that she won't be missing us as Po po n gong gong is in the house!!! (Imported them from Malaysia) <~ and no she did not miss us that much as she was having way to much fun!!!

This was baby skye 2nd LONG HAUL flight...read all about his 1st long haul flight to the land of sushi

Places we covered in summary:
1st day: (Friday) arrived noon - mr. Hubby headed straight to work...mummy and baby Skye checked in to hotel, queen Victoria building, n walked around city centre - shopping time!!! (George st, Pitt st mall, WestFields, Strand arcade)...met up mr. Hubby for dinner n dessert
2nd day: free walking tour (3 hrs) which covered CBD, the rocks, circular quay, opera house, sydney harbour bridge, etc
3 hrs flew by quickly as it was an interesting tour even for non historic person like me ;)
We have used the same free walking tour in Amsterdam not once but twice and it was awesome! I suggest you do it on ur first day as it gives u a general idea of where things are and if u like the particular place, you have the rest of days to go back :) please tip generously at the end of the tour if u like it as the tour guides are all volunteers!!!
The Rocks weekend market...
pancakes on the rocks for their awesome pancakes - plz order "THE ULTIMATE"!!! Thanks to a friend for the suggestion ;) wanted to stop by "The Guylian Belgian Chocolate Cafe" but our stomachs were full ...
Evening- Hillsong Church service, chinatown for late dinner at noodle house, darling harbour for fireworks (every Saturday)
3rd day: Sunday is CHEAP PUBLIC TRANSPORT DAY... $2.50 flat fee TOTAL for anywhere and everywhere!!!
So off we went to MANLY beach by ferry, fish n chips, and then headed by bus to BONDI BEACH... Wanted to do the scenic walk along the coastline (congee walk) but it rained heavily!
Fish n chips for dinner again :)
4th day: daddy headed to work half day!
Mummy n baby Skye headed to sydney fish market (yummy oysters), maritime museum, steak for lunch...
Checkout hotel and moved to an airport hotel as next day was a morning flight.
Dinner in hotel restaurant- burger (best burger ever) and pizza!
5th day: bye bye sydney
We left out blue mountain as it required at least half day to 1 day tour as we didn't have enough time and it wasn't on our top to do list!

Don't get me wrong from our itinerary, but there's loads of activity for KIDS (since Sydney is a family oriented place to be) but since Sienna wasn't with us + baby Skye is wayyy too young to know what's going on, we decided to skip! So koalas, kangaroos, etc, we will be back :)
(P/s: I've seen koalas n kangaroos few times before as I've been to Australia many times during my childhood days + when I had my wings on as a flight attendant!)

Things to note:
-Expensive city!!! I felt that things were more pricy than even in Japan...one meal can cost minimum AUD20 and above! Of coz u can get food court meal for AUD10 (fried rice, kebabs, etc)
-There's a Free bus that goes up n down George street (Main Street)...awesome for when your feet gets tired at the end of the day from walking!!! Just take the bus back up :)
-Stay in city centre especially if u have kids- saves u time n hassle! N sneak in power nap...

Overall, mr. Hubby and I both agreed that this was indeed a very nice and chilaxing holiday as the itinerary was just nice...! Not too packed and not too bare...
Do note that in Sydney, most shops close early around 5-6pm...(excluding chinatown and pubs/restaurants)! Actually sydney n Melbourne is not as bad as the rest of Australia....
So we switched gears and ended our days early and rose early in the morning!!!

Mummy tips:
~ be sure to book a bassinet before hand when taking airasiaX.
~ baby Skye did not have any ear pressure problem this time! (THANK GOD)
It helped that the flight was a red eye flight, so all of us got to SLEEP and we were out and about the next day we arrived!
~ public transport is SUPER BABY FRIENDLY! Even on the BUS...
The bus driver even tells everyone to make way as baby is on board! Feels like a VIP as oppose to a hermit crab coz here in spore everyone stares at u coming in with a stroller + baby + toddler + diaper bag + groceries!!!
(Dear SBS transit Singapore: plz take note of this...stroller need NOT be folded on the bus and baby can still be left in stroller...so hassle free!!! Plz adopt this practice here in Singapore :) I have signed the petition for it...)
~ taxi is a NO NO - Just like in JAPAN, never ever step foot into a TAXI...we made a mistake and took the taxi from the airport to the hotel (as mr. Hubby had to dash off to work right away)... The meter ran like water!!! My heart just skipped and my jaw dropped! AUD100 for a 20 mins ride...
This I have to give credit to Singapore as taxis here are cheap and reasonable...
~ no issues using a stroller as EVERYWHERE we went had escalators and lift!
I never once remembered carrying/folding the stroller or carrying baby Skye out...
But I did realized that Aussie mummies/daddies do not use strollers on escalators...and I was given imaginary stares when going on/off the escalator with baby skye!
~baby hair chair is found in all restaurants
~no hot or room temperature water in diaper changing rooms (Baby Skye didn't need any hot water but this breastfeeding mummy needed to fill my water bottle) But since cafes are found everywhere, u can just stop into any one and ask for hot water :)
~we did not use much of the baby changing or nursing rooms as our hotel was right smack in the middle of the city centre...since we started our days bright n early, we would pop by our hotel for a quick power nap + breastfeed + diaper change! Also baby Skye usually goes poo poo once he wakes up in the morning :) TMI
Note: there's a baby changing room in Myer departmental store and basement level of QVB!!!
~by now baby Skye is on SOLID FOOD (unlike purée during our JAPAN trip)... So this trip, since Australia has lots of fruit produce, we stocked up on lots of fruits + yogurt + bread + etc
Do note that seasonal fruits are really cheap!!! 3 containers of strawberries for AUD5, 1 container of pear for AUD 1.99!
~7eleven can be found quite easily if needed but can be a tad pricy! Better to stock up at the supermarkets... But let me tell u 7eleven has the BEST CHOCOLATE MUFFIN and cheapest coffee in town!!! AUD1 for a cappuccino and add AUD1 for the muffin...we "tapao" back the muffins coz of my daily sometime twice daily caffeine fix...
Cafes are everywhere in Sydney but a cup of cappuccino will set u back AUD3.50-5! Tried a few different cafes but For me, the taste of 7eleven was good enough ;)

Sydney goodies... Half gone in our tummies N some given to po po n gong gong before this pic was taken!
Note to self: the chai latte Woolworth brand is not worth buying...was looking for the tetley brand but they ran out...those FRENCH twist are yummy! But the best are the shortbread n scotch fingers (made from pure butter)... I'm addicted to those butter biscuits now :) hope it's just a phase!!!
And yes, that's the chocolate muffin (n cookies) I was telling u about ;)
hint to those travelling to Australia...hehehehe...
